Also, one can configure the beasts as you like it. From the outside, they will appear as one or more traditional disks. But very, very, reliable disks.

The topmost device is a drive for tape backups. Some people think that the RAIDs wouldn't require no backups no more. Dead wrong --- RAIDs will also still faithfully delete a file when errroneously requested to do so.

The RAIDs are not standing on the floor. Beneath them is the computer they are connected to. It's a Sun Enterprise 450 system. It's 4x3x2 ft big. The image shows just its 4x3 ft top plane.
