The full view of 2 RAIDs, seen from the back sides. The length of the cabinets is roughly 2 feet. There's a whole lotta computing involved to store / restore everything properly. Also, one can configure the beasts as you like it. From the outside, they will appear as one or more traditional disks. But very, very, reliable disks.

The topmost device is a drive for tape backups. Some people think that the RAIDs wouldn't require no backups no more. Dead wrong --- RAIDs will also still faithfully delete a file when errroneously requested to do so.

The RAIDs are not standing on the floor. Beneath them is the computer they are connected to. It's a Sun Enterprise 450 system. It's 4x3x2 ft big. The image shows just its 4x3 ft top plane.
